| Perhaps nowhere else in America, and maybe even the world, are the fall colors as stunning and spectacular as October in New England. Come join us at the famous Red Lion Inn, which first opened in 1773, for 5 days of running and exploring in the mountains of Western Massachusetts. Our runs take us through the small towns of Lenox, Great Barrington, Williamstown and Stockbridge, up onto Mount Greylock, and over the Mohawk Trail, the same foot path Native Americans used centuries ago.
Arrive in Stockbridge, MA and check in at the famous Red Lion Inn before heading to the Norman Rockwell Museum for our kickoff lunch and private tour. After, our first run takes us out through the gates of the museum past and through the Berkshire Botanical Gardens and through winding streets as we run back through the quiet town of Stockbridge. Enjoy a drink on the porch before dinner and watch Main St. the same way Rockwell once did. Day 2 Wake up and enjoy breakfast before heading out to a day of running in some of the Berkshires back country. Our destination is Glendale Falls in the town of Middlefield, where we run over portions of the Mohawk Trail. The colors on the trees will be a brilliant mix of yellows, reds and oranges as you run on quiet roads less traveled before enjoying a picnic lunch overlooking the longest waterfalls in Massachusetts. Head back to the hotel for a change of clothes before exploring the town of Lenox, and a stretch under the stars at Tanglewood. Day 3 Today we will head to the Northern part of Berkshire County as we explore the towns of North Adams and Williamstown. This morning's run takes us between the two towns before spending the day exploring Mass Moca, a unique museum dedicated to the visual, performing and new media arts, and the Natural Bridge, where waters tumble over a marble dam before running under a naturally created marble bridge. Day 4 The day will start out with energy food, a morning stretch and jog before brunch at the Dakota. We will then head out for a day of running and hiking in Mount Greylock State Forest. Our afternoon run will take us around some of the lower elevations before our hike to the summit, which will provide some of the most stunning views in the Northeast. From the top you will be able to look down upon 5 states, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire. Enjoy dinner tonight in the quaint town of Great Barrington. Day 5 Our final day starts out with our morning run in the October Mountain State Forest. Here we will run through the town of Lee before heading through the Covered Bridge. Enjoy our final brunch together at Carol's, a local breakfast standout, before heading home. |
