Far away from the busy city life of Boston and New York City lays the majestic Berkshire Mountains of Western Mass. Quaint towns dot this New England paradise known for its cultural escapes, small restaurants and quiet streets. Run along side rushing streams, and through mountain ranges as Coach Al Lyman prepares you for the fall marathon season. Browse the antique shops or sit on the porch and enjoy country living while training in style.
Welcome to Western Massachusetts, home of the magnificent Berkshires. Arrive for our kickoff lunch, where you meet your Host and Running Expert for our first session about run specific warm ups, before taking to the road. Our first afternoon will consist of an easy/aerobic 3-5 mile run complete with videotaping of your running style, through Stockbridge. Change for dinner as we wine and dine, followed by your personalized videotape analysis available back at the hotel and a session on flexibility and stretching. Day 2 In this mornings session we discuss different elements of training including “strides” and the importance of differentiation of pace and intensity during training runs. Following the discussion the group will go into our pre-run warm ups before departing on a 45 min to an hour run though some of the Berkshires back country. Spend the afternoon enjoying lunch at the Norman Rockwell Museum, relaxing in Stockbridge, or head back to the hotel for some R&R. This afternoon will feature an optional session on Running Form and Technique before dining at the Church Street Café in Lenox. End the night with an evening stretch under the stars. Day 3 Hopefully you got a good nights rest as today we take off to Mt. Greylock, the highest peak in MA. Here we will conduct our 1 hour run workout, over hilly and undulating terrain. The run will include Strides, short tempo segments and hill surges. We will practice the key elements of both uphill and downhill technique. Our afternoon will feature an optional session on the elements of proper training nutrition for reducing body fat and optimal performance. Enjoy a late dinner and drinks in Stockbridge at the famous Red Lion Inn. Day 4 |
