| While Colorado always has been known as a winter destination, the summertime is when its real beauty can be seen. Colorado is peaceful at this time of year, gone are the winter crowds leaving quiet paths, open rivers and beautiful sunsets for visitors to enjoy. Just the drive west on I-70 from Denver will refresh you, as the mountains rise up before you and crisp mountain air hits your face. From Boulder to Vail you will experience beautiful vistas, canyons, rushing streams, mountain tops and quaint towns. Our Journey starts in Boulder; and works its way down through Golden, Breckenridge and Frisco, before ending in the fabulous Vail Valley.
Arrive for our kickoff lunch in Boulder at the fabulous St. Julien Hotel where you will meet your Running Expert and Host. Today's afternoon run will take you through the Boulder Creek Path, which starts up in Boulder Canyon and winds its way through downtown and alongside Boulder Creek. This run is a quintessential Boulder experience, where the mile markers are made of large stones and spectacular canyon views give way to fly fisherman and people kayaking in the creek. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Boulder and relaxing followed by an evening stretch under the stars. Day 2 Wake up and get ready for a full day as we explore different parts of Boulder on foot. Today's run will be at Boulder Valley Ranch, a largely flat course offering scenic views of the foothills and Boulder Reservoir. After lunch in town, we head for an afternoon hike up to Bear Peak. Although its not an easy climb, its well worth the effort upon reaching the top. The summit provides spectacular views of the Boulder Valley, as well as Denver off in the distance. Relax after a full day in one of the hotel's outdoor hot tubs. Day 3 After breakfast at the hotel we head out for the day's run destination - Golden, Colorado. Golden, which was originally the state capital of Colorado back in the 1800's, is a bit of the old west. Today's run takes us through the old city before a private Coors Brewery tour and a visit to the grave of Buffalo Bill. Then head west on I-70 and over Independence Pass until we reach the quaint ski town of Breckenridge. Check out the town and enjoy dinner in this fantastic mountain setting. Day 4 Enjoy a leisurely breakfast outside in the crisp air and get ready for today's challenging run. This morning's route takes us from the town of Breckenridge to the old mining town of Frisco along the Peaks Trail. Run alongside a babbling brook before dipping into the mountainside among the aspens, finally emerging alongside Lake Dillon and onto Main Street in Frisco. After lunch, head west again to our final destination - The Lodge at Vail. Enjoy dinner on your own tonight in fabulous Vail Village, just steps from the hotel door. Day 5 Upon waking up, grab breakfast outside in the garden and take in at the incredible surroundings before heading up to Vail Pass, the site of today's run. The views from Vail Pass won't be topped as you work your way back down into the valley beneath you. After a quick lunch in town take off for a half-day rafting trip along the Colorado River which should allow you to experience Class III and IV rapids providing a huge thrill. After this exciting day, join us for dinner and drinks outside in the Village. Day 6 Grab some energy food provided by your Running Expert and Host, before preparing for our final morning run on some of Vail's famous ski trails. Work your way across the mountain from Vail Village to Lion's Head, finally ending up in the town of Minturn. Join us for our final private brunch before heading home. |
